Who he was
Sir Isaac Newton (1643–1727) was an English physicist and mathematician. His 1687 Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica laid out the laws of motion and universal gravitation that governed physics for over two centuries, until general relativity superseded (but did not overturn — Newtonian gravity remains an excellent approximation at everyday scales and speeds) it in 1915.
What he’s known for on this site
Newton’s law of universal gravitation ($F = GM_1M_2/r^2$) and the motion it predicts show up throughout this site as the classical baseline PBT compares itself against. The tidal acceleration formula and the un-modified half of the circular orbital velocity formula used in rotation-curve calculations are both pure Newtonian mechanics — real, exactly derived results, not approximations under dispute.
Catalog status: Proven Systems
Newtonian gravity is proven to extremely high precision at the scales it applies to (everyday objects, planetary orbits at low relative velocity) — its real limitation is that it breaks down at extreme mass/energy densities and high velocities, which is exactly where general relativity takes over.

Where this touches PBT
Newtonian gravity is the explicit starting point and comparison baseline for PBT’s own rotation-curve claims — this site’s own 2026-07-22 audit of Paper 1 found that plain Newtonian gravity (no PBT enhancement at all) was actually closer to the real observed value than the paper’s own “corrected” formula, a genuinely important honest finding rather than a minor footnote.
