Who he was

Hendrik Casimir (1909–2000) was a Dutch physicist. In 1948, he predicted that two uncharged, closely-spaced conducting plates would experience a real, measurable attractive force purely from quantum vacuum effects — first observed qualitatively in the 1950s, then measured to high precision starting in 1997 (Lamoreaux) and 1998 (Mohideen & Roy).
